ALLIE + AARON | BOX R RANCH WEDDING

When you shoot weddings, you come to appreciate the ringers on the reception floor. You know, the die-hards, the dependably fun wedding attendees who can always be counted on to deliver the party. A dead dance floor does not photograph well. This is where I first came to develop my gratefulness for Allie. Year after year, this girl came to my weddings and brought her dance moves with her. I imagine everyone who knows her is well acquainted with the smiles and the laughter. I can only hope her huge personality comes through in the images.

Aaron and Allie are perfect together. They compliment each other in the areas they are not similar. They laugh at each other’s jokes. The engagement session was perfect. We had a great break in the weather, and even got kicked out of a church-owned park (we just win like that). Their wedding day was just as perfect. Gorgeous venue, amazing weather, hilarious and moving ceremony, great party. I can’t thank them enough for having me… and I think I should just stop typing and let you smile along with Allie.

DISCLAIMER: with no apologies, I included both of my kids in this post. That’s just the way it is. You know there’s a good connection with the couple when your wife and kids get invited to spend the weekend at the resort.

A FAKE CONVERSATION WITH MY DERMATOLOGIST

So I had a random dream last night. It included a discussion with my dermatologist about business, and how he got to be so popular. See, it takes forever to get in to see him for an appointment… subconscious being overactive? Anyway, he fake told me that to be as busy as he is, all someone has to do is follow his example: specialize in something people really want, which has built-in longevity and repeat business. Be excellent at your specialty, cultivate the reputation for being THE one to go to for that specialty. Not bad advice for a dream.

The quest to find a niche and a specialty is one of self-discovery, and patient expectation. That’s the polite, artsy way of saying it seems to take forever and I don’t want to wait any longer. Sometimes a step or three back to “see the forest for the trees” is a good thing. Bottom line is, the imaginary discussion taking place during REM sleep has actually provided some humorously perfect direction.

If you need a good dermatologist in the Eugene area, Jay Park is excellent – and he gives good dreamtime counsel, too.

JAMIE + LANDON | FILM

I decided to shoot some film at Landon and Jamie’s wedding.  It’s been years, but here are a few from my first 3 rolls.  I don’t know that I i’ll ever shoot color with film, b&w is too addicting.  The mood of film, the grit, I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I looked over these shots.  It’s official, I’m bringing my EOS 3 to each wedding.

Go do something kind for someone who doesn't expect it.
